“When was the last time you told your story? It is the telling that heals...the story tells us and saves us.” - Mark Nepo, The Book of Awakening

Collaboration is key to successful therapy, and Joanna Lima can hold a safe, brave space for you so you can tell and explore your story. In the short-term, she will help you to develop effective strategies for coping with the stressors in your life. In the long-term, she will support you as you create a life you love living.

Joanna attunes to the language you use to talk about your experiences, listening for your innate strengths and resilience. She believes human connection and relationships are the foundation for healing and growth. Joanna has particular interest in the following areas:  relieving anxiety and depression, cultivating post-traumatic growth, navigating life transitions, and exploring complex, intersectional identities.

Joanna’s life experience includes transracial adoption, Navy family life, and invisible disabilities. She graduated from the University of San Diego with her M.A. in Marital and Family Therapy. She is practicing as a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, under the supervision of Dr. Tracy Wutzke. Prior to her career as a mental health professional, Joanna earned degrees in Religious Studies and Library Science. She has worked as a high school teacher and librarian; now, she brings her love of learning into therapy sessions to discover how she can be helpful to you on your journey.
